About the Author

David Cowan

David Cowan has worked at the highest levels of communications within major global organisations such as ArcelorMittal, where he was Head of Internal Communications with global responsibility for internal, branding and online communications to 320,000 employees in 65 countries. He developed an award-winning global internal magazine, and restructured the internal communications capability, coordinating a team of 100 across the world to manage the merger communications for Arcelor and Mittal and the new ArcelorMittal brand. Since joining Weber Shandwick, he has advised a variety of clients, including Honeywell Aerospace, SAP, Vimpelcom, University of Central Lancashire and Nespresso.He has also worked at the World Bank, where he was responsible for the internal and external communications of the Environmental and Social Development Department, and edited the IFC Global Environmental & Social Standards. He was previously head of corporate communications & public affairs at Clearstream International. Prior to his career in communications he was a financial and technology journalist, writing for a range of publications, including the Financial Times, Euromoney and The Middle East.
